[Livin' the Jazz] & Kyle Landing - Prep for UNICORN HORN JUVY TURF
As it stood, after recent scratches there were now five horses entered in the Unicorn Horn Juvy Turf. Kyle breathed a breath of relief as he and the regal black colt finished up their warm-up laps around the turf track. There were some worthy competition in this race and it was going to take some serious work on their part to truly shine apart from the field.
As Kyle nudged the black colt into a gallop, from the gate he began to think hard about the competition. Mini Moonstorm had the most experience in the field with an extra race to her name. There was also Night Goddess, a filly that Intrepid Racing had originally bred for themselves, she like Jax had taken second in their debut races. Then there was Blue Me Away who had taken the win in his first race. Yes, this was going to be a race they would have to work for, but Kyle had faith in this lively black colt's abilities.
Intrepid Racing was going to give the other stables a run for their money...
Kyle smiled at the challenge at hand as he leaned in close to the black colt, feeling the life exuding from every stride, every breath....this colt was life personified.
This field was chalk full of closers, which would make running in the back a little bit more crowded than usual, leaving Blue Me Away to become the front runner...not his usual position. Kyle fed more of the rein to the black colt as he ate it up, asking for more as they swung around the first turn in a tight fashion, turf flying.
Jax had an amazing sense of competitiveness. He ran to win and would fight to the finish...Nick had seen horses like Jax and he had been especially reminded of his own Admiral's Revenge when he saw the fire flash in his eyes. Jax wouldn't go down without a fight.
His energy only built throughout the race, to finally be unleashed in unmatched fury at the finish....he would fight to the end and it was this spirit that Nick and Kyle were counting on to carry this colt to the next level...but first the race at hand...
Jax was speedy horse for a closer, but with no true front-runner, the pace for this race would most likely be slower than usual. Kyle would have to run Jax a little bit in front of the field on closers....this would give him the room he needed to challenge in the end and still leave Jax's stamina fairly untapped to fight at the finish. With all these closers the last few furlongs were going to be murder... and that's what Kyle was counting on...
One look from a challenger or a sense that they were getting the better of him and Jax suddenly just throws another switch on...to fight to the very end.
Kyle felt the speed of his mount and smiled four furlongs at a steady pace and Jax was loosing it ready to go. He smiled as he fed the full rein and pulled in close.
Like a freight train they were off, the speed blinding as Kyle smiled trying to catch his breath. Then suddenly, Jax leaped and bugled in sheer joy! Kyle momentarily caught off guard grabbed the black mane as they thundered to their finish...
The charge had been sounded and now the battle lay ahead.
